Outlook fails to open “This functionality requires Internet Explorer 4.0 or above”

When Outlook fails to launch with the below error message.

Open Registry editor from Start- Run. (Always backup the Registry before you make a change)

1.Check the Registry path

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer and the correct version of IE was updated there.

2. Check the registry (Change if required) to the correct version 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/wow6432node/microsoft/internetexplorer

3. Enter the correct version and then launch Outlook close Registry edit and reopen Outlook. This issue should then be resolved.
